The Aircel Chennai Open 2016 held a Kid’s Day Tennis Clinic presented by Performax. More than 150 children attended the tennis clinic along with their parents.
Giving the tips handy tips on training and fitness were coaches Milos Galecic, (Fitness trainer of Somdev Devvarman) and Neville Godwin (Kevin Anderson’s Coach).
Amongst the players were Somdev Devvarman, Lukas Rosol , Adil Shamasdin, Philip Oswald, Luca Vanni and Igor Zelenay.
The clinic was held from 1-4pm, and was split in 2 sessions with session 1 for Intermediate and advanced kids along with a session 2 for Beginners.
As part of the fitness clinic, the kids participated in an extensive fitness session by Som Devvarman’s fitness coach Milos Galecic. Being the trainer of one of the fittest Indian tennis players, Milos made the kids work very hard and gave insights on Somdev’s fitness regimens and best practices.
There was a coaching session by Kevin Anderson’s coach – Neville Godwin who spoke about the mindset that kids should have while training, how does Kevin train, the importance of having a wide stance and lower centre of gravity and useful tips for developing a good serve. Neville answered a lot of queries from kids who were amongst the top ranked juniors of the city.
Somdev Devvarman spoke to the kids about his experience of NCAA at University of Virginia and how college tennis is a great avenue for getting a great education and playing competitive tennis at the college level which is funded through scholarships
The Beginner’s session was attended by about 100 kids who got an opportunity to play and get autographs from ATP players such as Lukas Rosol, Adil Shamasdin, Philip Oswald, Luca Vanni and Igor Zelenay.
The session was followed by a talk from India’s Davis Cup Team captain – Anand Amritraj on how kids should enjoy the sport at this stage, get the basics right and grow the passion for the game blah blah
All the children were handed over certificates by Anand Amritraj and given 2 tickets each to watch the matches.
