Balakumaran’s work enticed a huge fan craze during his hay days. He has worked in some of the biggest blockbuster films that released in the 80’s and 90’s. He was the dialogue writer of Mani Ratnam’s chef d'oeuvre Nayagan and later went on to write dialogues for Shankar’s Gentleman, Kadhalan and Jeans. Some of his other notable works are Baasha, Mugavaree, Manmadhan and Pudhupettai.
