From Chicago to Shanghai - The victory of Director Arun Chidambaram continues…


For the first time in the history of Tamil Cinema, after bagging two prestigious Remi Awards in 49th WorldFest Houston International, the much discussed Tamil film 'Kanavu Variyam' is now heading towards Shanghai International film Festival. Until now, Director Arun Chidambaram's 'Kanavu Variyam' has won 6 International awards. Arun Chidambaram, son of Dr. A. Chidambaram who is a pioneer in the field of Physical culture for more than 4 decades and who has trained for former Chief Minister Dr. MGR and a host of other celebrities, is now reaching heights with his debut Movie. The Actor-Director of the film Arun Chidambaram did his Masters (MS) in US and worked for JPMorgan Chase, one of the finest banks in US. Though he was working in Chicago, his intentions and thoughts were always revolving around Cinema and as a result he flew from Chicago to Chennai by which Tamil Cinema has got a wonderful creation 'Kanavu Variyam'.

“Even though I was based at Chicago, I was in tune with the mind set of Tamil Audience and kept myself up-to-date. And finally I decided to make a movie, something that is close to people’s heart. So I took power cuts in Tamil Nadu as the plot and came with the script. The movie has a bunch of newcomers in the lead roles and the story will throw light on the electricity issues that rural people have been facing for many years now. I wanted my film to be fun and commercial, hence Comedy is spread throughout the movie” says Arun.

Currently the film is selected for screening in the Shanghai International Film Festival, after which the audience can expect the movie’s release. ‘Kalla Manna’, a song from the film composed by Shyam Benjamin was awarded as Best children Song. “This song is one of my favorite. It will portray the fifty one buried traditional games of Tamilnadu in which more than 100 kids have acted. After the release, this song will capture the hearts of audience” said Arun Chidambaram confidently.
