Four 'Avatar' Sequels Are Coming, Says James Cameron

James Cameron surprised audiences by announcing 4 sequels, targeting 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
Director James Cameron announced that he will be making four sequels to his 2009 block-buster film Avatar. He also promised that the films will start hitting the theaters from 2018. The first film will come out in 2018, the other three films will be released at Christmas-time in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
However, the news was not completely unexpected for those who have been closely following the developments on Avatar sequels. Cameron first envisioned two sequels for Avatar. But later, he realized that he had way too much material for just two films. So, he decided to make three sequels, and surprisingly, now he jumped to four.
Speaking about his four sequels, Cameron said, “My vision for a followup has expanded over time.”
The original fantasy epic “Avatar,” released in 2009 still holds the record of all-time worldwide box office champion.
