Two more podiums for Armaan in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia),  India’s Armaan Ebrahim along with team-mate Dilantha Malagamuwa finished second and third overall in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia series at the Sepang International Circuit here this weekend.

The duo, representing Dilantha Racing, however, missed an outright win in the second race due to a stop-go penalty following an early release in the pit by four-tenths of a second and had to settle for the third spot.

In the qualifying sessions, Armaan showed blistering pace to grab pole position for the first race while Dilantha took P2 for the second race.

Armaan, supported by JK Racing, had a good start in the first race and enjoyed a sizeable lead when he handed over the car to Dilantha. The Sri Lankan, however, was passed and finished second.

Dilantha went out first in the second race. Though he slipped to third, he fought back to second before Armaan took over. Armaan was in with a chance to catch up with the leader, but was called in for a stop-go penalty for early release and eventually finished third.

Armaan said: “We could have had a better weekend but for the stop-go penalty in the second race when we had a chance to win.

“We had a great qualifying session. I went out in Q1 and put it on pole. It was super as I did two laps with the same time. Dilantha then did an excellent job in Q2 by qualifying second.

“In Race 1, I had a good start and led all the way till my pit stop with no drama. I even managed to build a comfortable gap, but after the pitstop as the race went on Dilantha was passed and we finished 2nd overall.

“In Race 2, Dilantha started and even though he lost a place at the start but fought back to second and held it till the end of his stint. When I got in, the gap to P1 was realistic. Unfortunately, I got called in for a 10-second stop-go penalty due to an early release during the pit stop. By early release I mean four-tenths of a second! Anyway, I pushed hard and we lost only a place to finish third overall.
